Dolly Parton left her fans and close ones heartbroken after passing away at the age of 80. The legendary singer made headlines with her secret health battle, and after her passing, it was revealed that she was briefly dealing with cancer. Dolly’s passing was a loss to the entire entertainment industry. Dolly’s close ones took to their social media handles and shared their feelings through their posts.

Some also remembered Dolly during their shows and paid tribute to the Jolene singer. This time, it was Miley Cyrus who paid tribute to her godmother. For those who don’t know, Miley and Dolly shared a deep bond. Dolly was close to Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, and their bond grew so strong that he and his ex-wife, Tish, asked the country music legend to be their daughter’s godmother.

Miley Cyrus tears up, recalling a fond memory and honouring her godmother Dolly Parton

Over the years, Miley and Dolly have been each other’s closest friends, always backing each other and collaborating on several projects. Miley recently, on October 16, 2026, recalled a fond memory of her godmother. During her Hollywood Bowl concert, Miley said she remembered seeing Dolly perform in the historic venue.

Dolly wanted Miley to join her on stage; however, the Flowers singer wanted to watch her godmother perform from the audience. Dolly opened the show with the Hannah Montana theme song, The Best of Both Worlds, before telling the crowd that Miley was present in the audience. Sharing the story about her godmother, Miley said:

“Like so many things Dolly did, that I didn’t understand it at the time, sitting here with you all right now, feeling her all around me, knowing that she’s right here beside me everyday, all the time, more than she could be when she was here. I feel her, now more than ever. Knowing that I get to share this story with you all, it makes that night very worth it. This memory is gold to me.”

Miley Cyrus was seen tearing up as she shared the story, adding that she misses Dolly. She also said that she and her godmother are eternal and there is nothing in the world that can set them apart. Miley then mentioned that she will meet her ‘Aunt Dolly’ again, while praising her for writing, producing and performing the best of the songs the music industry treasures.

Miley also performed Jolene to honour her godmother, and she joked in the middle that Dolly wouldn’t have appreciated her using the F word on the stage, during her presence. Miley joked:

“I’m feeling bad that she heard me say the F word. I can hear her telling me, ‘You said that when I was here.’”

During the same show, Miley later was seen holding Dolly Parton’s photo in a heart-shaped frame while performing Wrecking Ball, which the singer said was her godmother’s favourite in her catalogue, and for the same reason, she had to bring country music with her.

Miley Cyrus shared her last conversation with Dolly Parton

After Dolly Parton’s passing on August 25, 2026, Miley Cyrus took to her social media handle and shared an emotional tribute, where she revealed that it didn’t even seem to be a right thing to share what she was feeling after the passing of her godmother.

Miley further mentioned that their most sacred moments were private, and they would stay there behind the stage and behind the glamour. According to Miley, her godmother would want her to feel this pain and write a song about it. She also shared that one of their last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.
