Visakhapatnam: MSME minister Kondapalli Srinivas on Sunday lauded the services of the postal department in the rural areas. He suggested that the department extend loans to the DWCRA members.

Srinivas participated in a function at Gajapathinagaram in Vizianagaram district to present several individuals and institutions with sub-divisional level excellence awards 2025–26.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said recognising and rewarding talent is essential for society’s progress and development. He maintained that individuals contributing significantly to rural development, education, employment generation, social service, and public welfare deserve encouragement, as their achievements could inspire younger generations.

Srinivas presented a ₹50-lakh insurance claim cheque under the Group Accident Guard (GAG) scheme to the family of late Ramakrishna, who lost his life in an accident. He handed over the cheque to Ramakrishna’s wife Tulasi.

The MSME minister said he would discuss with Union minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar the possibility of facilitating loans to DWCRA women through postal networks. He noted that the postal department, which once primarily delivered letters, now provides a wide range of services across more than 1.64 lakh villages in India.

Speaking in this regard, Postal official Kolluru Srinivas said the department has a history spanning 170 years. It has been modernising its services through the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) over the last eight years. He pointed out that IPPB has been recognised as the Best Payments Bank in India for 2025–26 and now serves over 13 crore account holders nationwide.
