Vijayawada:Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister P. Narayana on Friday successfully concluded his two-day study tour of Malaysia, undertaken to examine global best practices in urban development, scientific waste management, and affordable housing, which could be adapted for implementation in the state, particularly for development of Amaravati.

During the second day of his visit, the minister toured the renowned Bukit Tagar Enviro Park in Selangor, one of Malaysia’s largest sanitary landfill projects. He closely studied the scientific methods adopted for management and disposal of solid waste without causing harm to the environment.

Officials at the facility briefed him about the advanced technologies employed across the waste management chain, from collection and transportation to final disposal.

Narayana paid particular attention to systems designed to prevent leachate from contaminating soil and groundwater, as well as measures aimed at minimising pollution in surrounding areas. He expressed keen interest in integration of environmental protection with modern waste-management practices.

The minister later visited a sprawling 1,530-acre integrated township in South Klang, where he reviewed a model of sustainable urban development featuring extensive green spaces, a comprehensive road network, and well-planned civic infrastructure.

He examined how environmental sustainability, pollution-control measures, and future growth requirements have been incorporated into the township’s planning and execution. He held discussions with officials on integration of residential, commercial, and social infrastructure within a unified urban development framework.

On the day, Narayana met representatives of leading Malaysian infrastructure firms Sunway Group and Gamuda Group. Their discussions focused on sustainable urban development, affordable housing, modern city planning, and infrastructure creation. They exchanged views on best practices that could be adopted in Andhra Pradesh, especially in the construction and expansion of Amaravati as a world-class capital city.
