Mist-Air Cooling System Trial at Traffic Booth

Hyderabad:Traffic police posted at the Legislative Assembly–Ravindra Bharathi crossroads received relief from the summer heat on Wednesday with the installation of a mist‑air evaporative cooling system on their booth.

The steel booths often turn unbearably hot, forcing constables to endure harsh conditions. The new fixture, installed on a trial basis, is expected to lower temperatures inside by five to six degrees. Constables Venkatesh and Ravi said the mist spray provided immediate comfort as it circulated around the booth.

Traffic DCP Avinash Kumar and joint commissioner D Joel Davis asked engineers to devise a solution to ease the strain on officers. Rambabu Anumula of Samhitha Engineering explained that the system works on the principle of latent heat absorption during water evaporation, reducing air temperature. “Usually this is used in function halls and gardens. It consumes little electricity, runs on a small motor and pump, and can operate for four hours on 20 litres of water,” he said.

Police officials said if the trial succeeds, about 200 traffic booths across the city will be fitted with the cooling system. Engineers added that this is the first time such technology has been adapted for traffic posts.
