Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS Assembly deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao on Friday refuted the remarks of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy that the previous BRS government had colluded with private entities to grab 550 acres of land in Miyapur. Harish Rao also rejected the Chief Minister’s claim that it was due to the concerted efforts of the Congress government that the Supreme Court had declared the disputed land as government property, and dismissed the claims of private parties.

Harish Rao said the Supreme Court records would establish that the BRS government, under then-Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, had fought an eight-year-long legal battle between 2015 and 2023 to protect the land. He said the then BRS government had appointed senior advocate C.S. Vaidyanathan on April 7, 2015, to represent Telangana in the Supreme Court and effectively contest the claims of private parties. Documentary evidence to establish the land as government owned was produced before the Supreme Court during the BRS government tenure, Harish Rao said.

He pointed out that the Supreme Court, in its judgment in the Miyapur land dispute, had relied on legal principles discussed in its June 15, 2023 judgment in the ‘Trinity Infraventures Ltd v. M.S. Murthy’ case.

Harish Rao criticised Revanth Reddy for proposing to sell the Miyapur land within 24 hours of the Supreme Court verdict, and questioned the haste to dispose of such a valuable public asset. “Revanth Reddy himself had valued the 550 acres at more than `60,000 crore. Instead of preserving the vast public asset for future generations and public requirements, the Congress government is allegedly preparing to sell it, particularly to the benamis of the Chief Minister,” Harish Rao alleged.
