VIJAYAWADA: Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar on Saturday felicitated Guntur district police personnel for cracking a series of agricultural irrigation motor theft cases and recovering 85 stolen motors worth ₹15.33 lakh.
At a function, the MLA honoured Guntur Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, along with circle inspectors, sub-inspectors, technical staff and personnel from the Ponnur Rural, Ponnur Town, Chebrolu, Tenali Rural and Chundur police stations for their role in solving the cases. The recovered irrigation motors were later handed over to the farmers.
Addressing the gathering, SP Vakul Jindal said repeated thefts of irrigation motors over the past two months had severely affected farmers, prompting the district police to constitute special investigation teams.
He said the teams identified and arrested the accused using CCTV footage, tower location analysis, the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), and other technical evidence, leading to the recovery of 85 irrigation motors valued at about ₹15.33 lakh.
The SP said the investigation was expedited following a request from MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar, who highlighted the hardships faced by farmers. He added that recognition from public representatives would motivate the police to continue delivering efficient, people-centric policing.
The MLA said the thefts had caused widespread concern in the predominantly agrarian constituency and appreciated the police for their swift action. He commended the investigating officers and technical teams for restoring public confidence by recovering the stolen property and providing timely relief to farmers.
