Adrian Morejon is about to become one of the most coveted relievers on the free-agent market, but there is one concern teams will need to consider before making a major investment. The former San Diego Padres setup man dealt with shoulder fatigue during the postseason, raising questions about his durability heading into his next contract.

Ken Rosenthal discussed Morejon on Foul Territory, pointing to the left-hander’s inability to finish the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers because of the stiffness. Rosenthal viewed that as a concern, and it is something interested teams will undoubtedly want to evaluate.
However, that shouldn’t overshadow what Morejon accomplished throughout the 2026 season. He was one of the most important pieces of San Diego’s bullpen, consistently handling high-pressure innings and giving the Padres a reliable option ahead of closer Mason Miller.
The combination of Morejon and Miller made the back end of San Diego’s bullpen extremely difficult for opposing offenses to navigate. Morejon’s ability to handle the seventh and eighth innings allowed Miller to take over in the ninth, creating one of the more dangerous late-inning combinations in baseball.

At just 27 years old, Morejon also has plenty of baseball ahead of him. He isn’t just another experienced setup man looking for a new home. He has the talent to close games for nearly 90 percent of MLB teams, making his market value even higher.

The arm fatigue is worth monitoring, especially for a reliever who could command a lucrative contract. Still, one postseason concern shouldn’t erase an entire season of excellent work.
