VIJAYAWADA: In a bid to promote healthy food choices and improve farmers’ livelihoods, NTR district collector Dr G. Lakshmisha on Saturday launched a mobile farmers’ market in Vijayawada to supply natural farming produce directly to consumers.

The initiative was launched at SLV Green Villas, where the collector flagged off a specially designed vehicle to transport and sell produce grown through natural farming methods. It aims to connect farmers directly with consumers and ensure chemical-free produce reaches households without middlemen.

Dr Lakshmisha said the programme would provide consumers with safe and healthy food while ensuring better income opportunities for farmers practising natural farming.

He said all natural farming farmers in the district would be mapped systematically and more such mobile vehicles introduced in future to widen the reach of the initiative. This would help expand natural farming practices across the district.

The collector also said traceability would be introduced for all produce. Consumers would be able to scan QR codes to know details of farmers and cultivation methods.

He added that large-scale marketing opportunities would be created for farmers to improve market access and profitability.

District project manager (in-charge) for Natural Farming V. Naga Prameela Rani, farmers, officials, consumers and local residents attended the programme.
