During his recent visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Abdullah Al Baroun and Abdul Lateef Al Nesef, the individuals responsible for translating and publishing the Indian epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, into Arabic. This meeting marks a significant cultural milestone, as it aims to foster deeper cross-cultural understanding between India and the Arab world.

Al Baroun dedicated over two years to translating these iconic texts, while Al Nesef oversaw their publication. Modi praised their efforts, emphasizing the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening ties between nations. He had previously acknowledged their work during his “Mann Ki Baat” radio address, highlighting how such initiatives promote mutual appreciation of diverse cultures.

The Prime Minister’s visit is notable as it is the first by an Indian leader to Kuwait in 43 years, reflecting a commitment to enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors, including trade and culture. During his stay, Modi also interacted with the Indian diaspora and attended significant events, further solidifying India’s cultural presence in the region.
