Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kedarnath between October 22 and 25 to offer prayers and review reconstruction work, officials in the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Office said.
Preparations are underway for the proposed visit, although the Prime Minister’s Office has not officially released his schedule.
Modi has visited the Kedarnath shrine six times since becoming Prime Minister in 2014. His proposed visit falls close to the anniversary of his October 21, 2022, visit, which took place after that year’s Assembly elections.
Besides performing puja at the temple, he is expected to inspect reconstruction work at Kedarpuri and review the timetable for completing the projects and opening them to pilgrims.
Officials said a Special Protection Group team had inspected Kedarnath and submitted its security assessment.
After visiting Kedarnath, Modi is expected to travel to Tehri to inaugurate THDC’s 1,000 MW pumped storage power plant.
Uttarakhand has been a frequent destination for the Prime Minister. Apart from election rallies, his visits have included prayers and rituals at Kedarnath.
Modi has repeatedly urged people across the country to visit Uttarakhand’s tourist destinations. He has also promoted winter tourism among international visitors and encouraged young Indians to choose locations in the state’s hills for destination weddings.
