CHENNAI: A lighthearted and unexpected moment unfolded at Chennai Airport today during the official welcome reception for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in the city to inaugurate the Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro Rail service along with several other important development projects.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was received with a floral bouquet by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. Following the Chief Minister, the State Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources, N. Anand, stepped forward to greet him.
Prime Minister Modi’s attention was immediately caught by a printed portrait of Chief Minister Vijay affixed to Minister Anand’s shirt pocket. Visibly amused, Modi placed his hand near the photo and turned to the Chief Minister, remarking in surprise, “Look at that, the minister is carrying your portrait right on his shirt!”
CM Vijay responded with an acknowledging smile and a nod. Turning back to Minister Anand, PM Modi praised his loyalty with a quip: “You’re doing well… best wishes!”
The brief, humorous exchange drew smiles and laughter from the dignitaries present on the tarmac, including the Governor and senior officials.
