Rangareddy: A tragic case where a five-month-old boy was orphaned due to his parents’ suicide within the limits of the Mokila Police Station has brought to light the financial distress caused by the in-laws and co-brother of the deceased man, who drove the couple to take their lives.
According to CI Srinivasa Reddy, after the suicide of the couple Vadla Balasai (32), a photographer and Padma (26), on Sunday, police launched an investigation based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s brother Aravind.
During the police investigation, the police checked the deceased’s mobile phone, and they found a message where he wrote, ‘Please forgive us. My wife and I were deceived by my in-laws, and they are the reason for our death, ‘ he wrote. Taking a cue from this message, the police conducted a detailed investigation into the case.
As per reports, the couple had fallen in love and were married a year and a half ago. They were living in Patelguda, Patancheruvu mandal, in Sangareddy district. A few days after the wedding, the couple went to Padma’s house. The mother-in-law told them that they needed Rs. 10 lakh, as a sadhu had told them that there was hidden treasure in their house and certain rituals had to be performed. The in-laws and his co-brother Venkatesh convinced Balasai to get the money. Believing them, Balasai had borrowed Rs. 10 lakhs from people he knew at a high interest rate and gave it to them. When the house was excavated, no treasure was found. His in-laws did not disclose the facts to the couple.
Meanwhile, those who lent money to Balasai started pressuring him for repayment of the money. He asked his in-laws and co-brother to return the money, explaining his ordeal, but they did not return the money, pushing him to dire circumstances.
Realising they had been cheated and with no option to repay, Balasai and Padma came to their hometown in Janwada and committed suicide by hanging at their residence, leaving behind their five-month-old son. Mokila police arrested the in-laws Shantamma, Chandrayya and his co-brother Venkatesh for abetment of suicide and sent them to remand.
