Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury welcomed their second child last week wand proud dad Tommy revealed the name of their son last night

Molly-Mae Hague fans have asked if she’s considered the meaning behind her baby son’s name after it was finally revealed last night. Proud dad Tommy Fury had promised to wear the moniker on his shorts as he took to the boxing ring to defeat the world’s strongest man, Eddie Hall.

Instead the 27-year-old went one better and had the name ‘MIDAS’ emblazoned across the back of his jacket. But not everyone is a fan of the name, which in Greek and Roman legend is a king known for his foolishness and greed.

Taking to Instagram, one fan asked: “Plz tell me it’s a joke they called the baby Midas.” However, others were quick to defend Molly-Mae and Tommy’s choice. “Midas means King. I hope when you have a baby people don’t take the p*** out of the name you choose,” one hit back.

Another retorted: “It’s a God name. Good job it’s not your baby!” A third said: “I’m defending a woman who literally just had a baby… the last thing a postpartum woman needs is people flooding her comments with this bs.”

A fourth pointed out: “It’s a common Greek name.” While a fifth added: “It’s Greek origin is ‘famous for the golden touch’. If I were a betting girl I’d say that’s more so why he was given the name.”

In Greek and Roman legend, King Midas of Phrygia is famous for his foolishness and greed. He was granted the wish that everything he touched turn to gold.

The next day, Midas, woke up eager to see if his wish had become true. He touched a small table that immediately turned into gold, followed by a chair and his bathtub.

This myth gave rise to the common phrase ‘the Midas touch’ ,which describes someone who is exceptionally successful or profitable in their endeavours. But Midas quickly realised the curse of this gift when he accidentally turned his food, drink, and even his daughter into a gold statue after he hugged her.

Despaired and fearful, he prayed to the gods to take the curse from him. Midas was told to go to river Pactolus and wash his hands. The legend goes that he was astonished to see gold flowing from his hands. The ancient Greeks said they had found gold on the river banks.

When he turned home, everything Midas had touched became normal again. He hugged his daughter in full happiness and decided to share his great fortune with his people.

From that point on, Midas became a better person, generous and grateful for all goods of his life. His people led a prosperous life and when he died, it’s said they all mourned their beloved king.

Molly-Mae and Tommy welcomed their second child on June 3. In a joint social media post, she shared a picture of her, her fiancé and their daughter, and wrote: “….and then there were 4,” with a white love heart. They already share three-year-old daughter Bambi.
