THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a tragic incident, a woman was killed in a wild elephant attack while on her way to drop her son at school in Sinkukandam, Chinnakanal area of Idukki district, on Monday morning.
The child was injured and admitted to a local hospital. The victim was identified as Mari, 36, a resident of Sinkukandam, Suryanelli.
According to officials, the attack happened around 8 a.m. near the Sinkukandam Transformer curve while Mari was accompanying her son to school. The wild elephant suddenly charged, trampling Mari and causing fatal injuries. She died on the spot. Dense fog from overnight heavy rain made visibility very poor, making it hard to spot the elephant in the area.
The local people informed the forest department about the attack, and soon after, a team of officials rushed to the spot. They quickly took the child to Admilai Talum Hospital and worked to drive the elephant away from the human habitation.
