At the time Katie was known as Jordan and was about to be a cover star of Playboy, and she learned what happened in the Playboy mansion and how it worked.
Katie Price has revealed what she saw go on at the Playboy mansion when she was invited to go and live there by Hugh Hefner. The celebrity and former glamour model was still best known as Jordan when she was invited to go to America by Hefner in the Summer of 2002.
He was also keen for her to be in Playboy magazine and paid her a six figure sum. In a new Sky documentary about her life Katie says: “It was about a quarter of a million or something I got for that. He wanted me to be one of his girlfriends but I didn’t because I didn’t want to have sex with him…but they said I could stay at the mansion.”
Katie spent up to six weeks living in the mansion in 2002. Her son Harvey had just been born in May of that year so, as she previously confirmed on the Saving Grace podcast, she flew Harvey and her mum Amy to America too and they stayed in a hotel close by to the Playboy mansion, in a seemingly bizarre arrangement, so Katie could also spend time with her son.
Photographer Jeany Savage, who regularly shot Katie at the time under her glamour model Jordan, also flew out for some of the time she was there. In her new documentary Katie details how the time staying at the Playboy mansion with Hefner and other models was quite organised day by day and structured, as opposed to the all night parties everyone thought happened every night.
She said: “It’s not what people would think it was like, it was different. Girls in bikinis all done up walking around and playing beach ball and he is sat there with his mate in his dressing gown playing cards. It looked like Barbieland.”
“On a Monday, Wednesday, Friday, the nights we’d go out, then we’d come back, then we’d go into a bathroom, all get in the bath, and all have little wash.
“Then we’d moved to his bedroom, massive bed, sex toys like pneumatic drills, I’ve never seen anything like it. And a big screen with porn playing, and I’m thinking, ‘right, what’s going on here?’
“Some girls are completely naked, I had my knickers on, some other girls had knickers on, and you see girls getting off with each other, having sex. I had a little experiment.”
She then told her new Sky documentary series she saw other girls having sex with Hefner on one of these occasions at the mansion in the Holmby Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
She added: “So that would happen Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and then every other day the other days were just normal. Then he’d have on a Sunday, movie nights.
Perhaps even more revealing was the comment on the documentary from photographer Jeany Savage who went with Katie to the mansion.
Jeany said: “It was quite entertaining, bowls of cocaine everywhere. A lot of cocaine around.” Asked what Katie got up to there she added: “I dread to think.”
Also in the documentary, Katie faced criticism for the way she treated Harvey in 2002 and the fact she went straight back to work and took him along to photoshoots and things like this Playboy trip to America.
Harvey was also born with Prader-Willi Syndrome and blindness and Katie said: “He’s my baby, I’m still proud, he’s my boy. And even later, when it was clear he had a lot more complex needs, it’s all right. We’ve got this. I’m gonna deal with it.”
But Katie also made the decision to get back to modelling and photoshoots and interviews immediately.
She explained: “Ten days later, after having Harvey, I was straight back to work. I was a single parent mum, that was my job, and I’m going to continue it.”
Her mum Amy and photographer friend Jeanny Savage both say she did the wrong thing. Amy, who would accompany her on some of the shoots in the UK, said: “She went for interviews and she’d take him. I couldn’t believe it, really making money out of Harvey. I really thought that that should have been kept private. He’s a vulnerable child, and why would you want everyone to know. I just couldn’t understand the logic. Why?”
Photographer Jeany Savage said: “I don’t agree with the way she sort of pushed him into the headlines. But you know, she is that character. In her way she probably thought she was doing right.”
Katie defended herself saying: “I am in the public eye just because I’ve found out he’s right. I’m not going to hide him away. Why? I’m proud that I’ve got my son. I’ve monetized my life from 17. My everything I do has been monetized, so why would it change just because I’ve had Harvey?”
* Katie Price : Nothing to Hide, a four-part Sky Original series, will be available on Sky and streaming service NOW on 8 July.
