Almost a week after the alleged multi-crore purchase scam in the civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh came to light, chief minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday broke his silence on the issue, saying that ‘No one, found involved in any scandal, will be spared’.
Addressing the state cabinet meeting here, Mr. Yadav vowed to curb corruption in the government.
Apparently referring to the alleged purchase scandal in the civic bodies, he exhorted his ministerial colleagues to be vigilant about any kind of corrupt practices in the government and take determined steps to curb them.
“The chief minister said that no one, involved in any kind of corruption practices, will be spared”, state minister Chaitanya Kashyap said while briefing reporters on the deliberations on the cabinet meeting.
According to him, the meeting was informed that a probe was conducted into 201 cases in the alleged corruption in the purchase of various commodities by the urban local bodies in which actions have been taken against 392 officials.
An investigation into the matter is still in progress, he said.
The purchase scam may be to the tune of Rs 250 crore, an official projection has suggested.
The purchases made by the 374 urban local bodies were to the tune of Rs 1,134 crore and around Rs 250 crore could have been saved had there been no anomalies in the purchase prices of the identical commodities, the projection has indicated.
The Opposition Congress has hit the streets to take the issue to the people.
