Golfer Trey Mullinax has received a six-month ban after testing positive for a substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Mullinax – whose one PGA Tour victory came at the 2022 Barbasol Championship – said in a statement provided by the Tour that he used a medication for a condition he was diagnosed with at university without seeking approval.
He becomes the ninth golfer to be suspended since the PGA Tour begin drug testing in 2008, and the first since Byeong Hun An was suspended for using a cough syrup that contained a prohibited substance in October 2023.
“It is my responsibility to understand and follow the PGA Tour’s Anti-Doping Policy and all of its rules and regulations,” Mullinax said in the statement. “I failed to do that, and that is on me.
“My lack of knowledge is not an excuse. It was my responsibility to know the rules before taking any medication and I failed to do so.
“I want to be absolutely clear: I have never taken any substance with the intention of gaining a competitive advantage.

Mullinax has only appeared three times on the Tour this year, with one of those appearances coming at a Korn Ferry Tour event.
He finished 150th in the FedEx Cup last year, and has conditional status for the 2026 edition.
The American is eligible to return to the Tour on January 16, a week before the 2027 season begins.
