Sue Gibson, a horse breeder and the ex-wife of mining magnate Steve Wyatt, has put her Southern Highlands estate on the market with a price guide of $11 million to $12 million.
The Perth multimillionaire’s five-bedroom, four-bathroom property on 49 hectares in NSW’s Robertson has been on and off the market since 2022. Local sources not authorised to comment publicly say the home is now surplus to Gibson’s needs, and she’s spending more time back in Western Australia as her business, the Velvet Quarter Horse Ranch, has relocated from Robertson to WA.
This masthead previously reported that the Robertson home was expected to be a permanent residence for Gibson after her split from Wyatt. She became the sole owner of Perth mansion Dalkeith, which she and Wyatt paid $39 million for in 2011, and was sold for $27.5 million in 2018. Dalkeith was built for the late Alan Bond and his then-wife Eileen Hughes.
The property for sale consists of a sandstone main residence, two cottages for guest accommodation, a tennis court, 10-stall barn, wash bays, an indoor and outdoor arena, and three machinery sheds. There are also six dams, rainforest trails and rock walls.
Interiors are opulent with coffered and raked ceilings, bold feature walls and chandeliers.
Gibson purchased the estate for $5.55 million in 2017 from trophy-home traders Louise and Michael Zavattaro. They bought the property for $4.8 million in 2009 from fashion designer Lisa Ho and her former husband Philip Smouha, records show.
Wyatt co-founded Mineral Resources, and in April, he emerged as a new substantial shareholder of Macarthur Minerals through his holding company, Destec Holdings.
Gibson’s passion is the Velvet Quarter Horse Ranch, an Australian performance operation involved in the breeding and training of elite stallions.
The estate is being sold through Matthew Anstee and Kristy Tuddenham of Raine & Horne Southern Highlands, in conjunction with Samuel Lindsay of Drew Lindsay Sotheby’s International Realty.
TV host’s sales
Samantha Armytage has been on a selling spree, offloading properties that are now surplus to her needs.
The host of Nine’s The Golden Bachelor sold her Hyams Beach home in March, and has just sold her weatherboard cottage in Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands for a figure within the $2.1 million to $2.3 million guide, this masthead, which is owned by Nine, can reveal.
A sold sticker went up on the listing indicating a sale by private treaty on April 30 with the sale price undisclosed. Bradley Cocks of Drew Lindsay Sotheby’s International Realty said there was “an overwhelming amount of interest” and sold after nine days on the market.
Local sources not authorised to comment publicly said Armytage no longer had use for the three-bedroom, two-bathroom property that she bought for $1.3 million in 2024 and substantially renovated.
The home was built in the 1960s and featured dated interiors including a timber-clad kitchen. There is now a white country-style kitchen with a farmhouse sink and island bench, vertical joint wall panels and French doors. There are verandahs to relax and unwind.
Elsewhere, this masthead exclusively revealed in March that the sale price of Armytage’s Hyams Beach home was $2.75 million, after it was listed with a price guide of $2.95 million to $3.1 million.
That three-bedroom, two-bathroom property was transferred by a family member into her name without monetary consideration in 2021. It previously traded for $1,765,000 in 2018.
Cocks and Samuel Lindsay of Drew Lindsay Sotheby’s International Realty sold the Hyams Beach home.
Grand Potts Point terrace for sale
Colin Tate, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, and his husband, Matthew Fatches, an interior architect turned cattle farmer, are selling their Potts Point terrace with a buyer’s guide of $7.5 million.
Tate told this masthead they’re selling as he’s only at the property once every three weeks due to travel, and enjoys their new rural home being close to the airport. The couple have purchased an estate in Glenquarry in the Southern Highlands.
Tate and Fatches purchased the four-bedroom, three-bathroom Potts Point terrace for $6.8 million in 2023 from businessman Trevor Lam, records show, and made some renovations.
The four-level property was built around 1890 and retains its ornate ceilings and original timber floors, while a refreshed palette includes marble fireplaces, feature walls and designer lighting.
The couple are also selling an eight-bedroom, four-bathroom residence in Binda in the Southern Tablelands with a price guide of $4.5 million through David Medina and Mike Whelan of Sydney Sotheby’s International Realty.
Their new home is believed to be a four-bedroom, three-bathroom farmhouse with a pool on 43 hectares that sold for $11.5 million in March and is yet to settle.
Tate is the founder of publishing company Conexus Financial and was the former foundation chair of NeuRA, a medical institute dedicated to improving the lives of those with brain and nervous system disorders.
The Potts Point home is being sold through Jason Boon, Geoff Cox and Joss Reid of Raine & Horne Elizabeth Bay and Potts Point.
