Mumbai: Mumbai airport operator MIAL on Thursday finalised the international slot allocation for the summer schedule starting in March 2027, allocating slots to 38 of the 50 overseas carriers, with the remaining 12 possibly shifting to Navi Mumbai.

The development also comes against the backdrop of international airlines opposing the airport operator’s decision to shift international flights to Navi Mumbai airport citing planned renovation of Mumbai airport’s Terminal 1 from early next year.

Sources said that following consultations, Mumbai airport has decided to allocate slots to 38 of the 50 international airlines for the Summer 2027 schedule that begins in March.

They also said that 12 airlines, operating around 16 daily departures to 14 destinations, have not been allocated slots at the airport for the next summer schedule.

These airlines may operate the affected services from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), they said and added that the arrangement would not impact around 91 per cent of the airport’s existing traffic capacity.

Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) did not comment.

Meanwhile, sources at the Airport Operators’ Committee (AOC) claimed MIAL has taken a unilateral decision on the slots without adhering to international guidelines.

“(This is a) totally unilateral decision and (MIAL is) not adhering to both MOCA and IATA SLOTS guidelines,” they said.

Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports are part of AAHL. Mumbai airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).

MIAL initially planned to implement the partial shift of international operations from October 25 but later deferred the deadline to March 2027 after concerns raised by various foreign airlines about the transition plan.

At the same time, Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, and Akasa Air jointly with AAHL have announced shifting their international operations to NMIA in a phased manner in the coming months.
