Myleene Klass has revealed that she had a recent cancer scare that was ‘sobering, humbling and terrifying’, after finding two lumps in her breast, and sent an urgent plea to fans

Myleene Klass has opened up about a “terrifying” breast cancer scare. The TV presenter took to Instagram to issue her fans with an urgent plea after finding two lumps in her breast.
Myleene, 48, said she found the first lump by chance whilst watching Wimbledon in June. She shared a picture of her torso, with black marker indicating where the lumps were and said: “Girls. A massive reminder to check yourselves.
“I accidentally felt a lump when I was at Wimbledon watching the tennis. I casually folded my arms and there it was. Then a second one. The subsequent days went both quickly and agonisingly slowly.”
She then assured fans that she’d been given the all clear. “3 cysts and 3 lymph nodes later, I’m ok,” Myleene wrote. “BUT the days of waiting meant I reorganised my life into a new set of priorities and ‘what ifs’ only to thankfully get the all clear and then experience the weird ‘reordering’ of going back to ‘normal’.
“I have close friends going through similar experiences atm and it’s sobering, humbling and terrifying. It’s the having kids that anyone who experiences anything near this will know to be the first and final concern.”
Having had four miscarriages in the past, Myleene admitted that getting her breasts checked with an ultrasound was a tough experience. She explained that she hadn’t “seen an ultrasound since my multiple MCs” and that having to do so again was “pretty sobering”.
“All this to say,” she continued. “As a fierce advocate for women’s healthy and not hiding what’s uncomfortable, right now, check yourself and go get a second opinion.
“Kudos and eternal thanks to @the_mutha_ship who moved mountains lightning fast to get me seen and sorted and didn’t take her foot off the gas. To those who don’t have a Sec, look at this as your prompt form me. Check yourselves. x.”
Myleene’s news came just after her best friend and fellow presenter Lauren Laverne revealed that she had been diagnosed with a blood and bone marrow disorder that could become cancer. The Desert Island Discs star, 48, wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been diagnosed with something called smouldering myeloma (yes that is a weird name and no I’d never heard of it either). It’s an asymptomatic blood and bone marrow disorder that in some people can develop into blood cancer.”
Smouldering myeloma is where abnormal cells can be detected in bone marrow and abnormal protein can be detected in the blood and/or urine. It typically does not have symptoms related to active myeloma and does not require treatment, but those with it should be monitored regularly for signs they have developed active myeloma.
Myeloma is an incurable blood cancer and approximately 6,200 people are diagnosed with it in the UK every year. It develops in plasma cells and then spreads through the bone marrow, creating an antibody called paraprotein and often damaging the bones in affected areas. Common symptoms include fatigue, kidney damage and bone disease, which can cause bones to fracture more easily.
Though myeloma is a relapsing-remitting cancer and therefore incurable, treatment can be affective to relieve symptoms, prolong remission periods and extend life.
Following her diagnosis, Lauren revealed that she had always been anxious about developing cancer, especially after her mother died following a battle with a terminal cancer in 2022.
She said: “It was something I’d always been anxious about. Especially if you have family members who’ve been through it. You have a sort of watchfulness about your own health, which is obviously why I got tested for everything and why it was picked up, thank God, so early on.”
