A day after the Rams traded away a haul to get Myles Garrett, the star pass rusher revealed he actually had to give up something of his own to get his desired jersey number in Los Angeles.
During his introductory press conference at the Rams’ practice facility on Tuesday, Garrett told The California Post’s Michael Duarte that he had to throw some cash at Poona Ford in order to wear his familiar No. 95 in Tinseltown.
Garrett didn’t share the exact amount that it took — but he confirmed it cost him “more than a couple” bucks to sway Ford off the digits.
“But he was open to it,” Garrett said of his conversation with his new teammate. “I understood that there had been some other number trades before me. So I based my decision off of that. So he understood and I’m glad to be sticking to with 95.”
Ford — a 30-year-old defensive tackle who’s worn No. 95 throughout his football career — was given the number by the Rams in March 2025, after he inked a three-year, $27.6 million contract with the team. He went on to log 10 starts and two sacks in the jersey.

Ford, however, switched to No. 97, a number he sported during his time in Seattle, in the hours after the Rams announced they had traded Jared Verse and three draft picks to acquire Garrett.
Garrett has never worn a number outside of 95 in the entirety of his Hall of Fame-worthy, nine-year NFL career.
Ford has yet to publicly comment on the number negotiations, though he did share some crying emojis on a silly X meme that made light of the situation on Monday afternoon.
