Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan met in Undavalli on Thursday to discuss political developments in Andhra Pradesh, preparations for the local body elections and the alleged creation of a fake WhatsApp channel using the DyCMO name.
The meeting focused on the Supreme Court’s directions concerning the municipal election process and coordination among the Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and BJP alliance partners.
The leaders are understood to have discussed preparations for possible re-nominations or an extension of the nomination period, with an emphasis on coordination among the alliance partners.
The alleged use of the DyCMO name to create a fake WhatsApp channel figured prominently in the discussions. The two leaders expressed concern over the alleged circulation of misinformation in the name of a government office and discussed steps to identify those responsible and initiate legal action against them.
They are also understood to have discussed expediting action against cybercriminals allegedly involved in operating the channel and investigating the suspected role of YSRC social media groups and their organisers.
The leaders discussed seat-sharing arrangements and coordination among the alliance partners for the upcoming mandal, zilla parishad and gram panchayat elections. They stressed the need to strengthen coordination committees to ensure that TDP, Jana Sena and BJP cadres work together at the grassroots level.
Campaign strategies to counter the YSRC’s political messaging were also discussed, including what the leaders viewed as attempts to gain public sympathy and the use of visiting cards for political publicity.
With the possibility of the elections being postponed by four or five days, Naidu and Pawan Kalyan are keen on using the additional time to strengthen preparations and improve coordination among alliance candidates and cadres, sources said.
