Nellore: The SPSR Nellore district police conducted a district-wide naka bandi and intensive lodge inspections on Friday night as part of efforts to strengthen law and order and curb illegal activities, including IPL betting, ganja trade and anti-social activities.
Following the directions of the district SP, special teams comprising 212 police personnel carried out checks between 9 pm and 10.30 pm at key junctions, bus stands, railway stations, highways and sensitive areas across the district.
Police inspected 65 lodges and registered 29 cases of open drinking, 18 drunk-and-drive cases and 422 Motor Vehicles Act violations, imposing fines totaling `1.20 lakh.
Officials said surveillance has been intensified in crime-prone areas using drone cameras to prevent offences such as gambling, ganja consumption, eve-teasing, chain snatching and thefts. Police also strengthened inter-district coordination and border vehicle checks to prevent illegal transportation activities.
The public has been urged to report suspicious activities through Dial 100/112 or the district control room.
