Nalgonda: A construction worker in Nalgonda district purchased a motorcycle by paying the entire amount in ₹10 coins. Konde Raghupathi, a resident of Velminedu, bought a Hero Splendor Plus bike from Vinayaka Automobiles in Chityal by paying ₹1.1 lakh, including ₹11,000 in ₹10 coins.

Raghupathi said he, along with his wife and two children, had been collecting ₹10 coins since 2017 as savings to buy the vehicle. He said the family continued to accept the coins even when doubts were raised about their validity.

The showroom owner, Uppu Madhu, said Raghupathi had approached him stating he would pay using ₹10 coins. He said the showroom initially had concerns about counting the coins but agreed to accept them.

He said it took five employees around four hours to count the coins before completing the transaction and handing over the vehicle to the buyer.
