Nandini Reddy is on Cloud Nine over the success of Maa Inti Bangaaram.
True, she had collaborated with Samantha earlier on Jabardashth and Oh Baby, but that didn’t prepare her for the level of success Maa Inti Bangaaram has achieved, she says. “It’s still sinking in. The fact that people actually got everything we tried to say is very gratifying.”
Crediting the leading lady for the success of the film, Nandini says, “Samantha has been constantly evolving as an artiste because that’s how she is. She is always learning, always honing and fine-tuning herself. She has delivered one of her best performances in this film and we understood that as we were making it.”
The success of a female hero revenge story doesn’t surprise Nandini. “Action films led by women have a history in Telugu cinema. Vijayashanti Garu has one of the greatest chapters in that story. So simply doing action is not the trick. The story, the way it is told, etc., and how it connects, makes the difference.”
The timing of the success is a matter of special joy to the director. She says, “Samantha’s pregnancy comes at such a beautiful time and we are so happy that the baby is part of this beautiful journey. I certainly will have stories to tell him or her.”
On another front, a success of this magnitude gives Nandini an added sense of responsibility. “Like Spiderman said, with great power comes great responsibility. I would always like to tell stories that engage and entertain. The story will decide who it’s led by. That’s how I have always worked.”
