Nellore: YSRC MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy on Monday alleged that municipal administration minister P. Narayana was “running his own Constitution” in Nellore and undermining democratic governance through the ongoing ward delimitation process.

Addressing a press conference at the YSRC district office in Nellore along with district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy and Nellore Rural in-charge Vijay Kumar Reddy, the MLC described the delimitation exercise in Nellore city as “chaotic and arbitrary”.

He alleged that divisions were being merged and split at the minister’s discretion, creating confusion among residents. In some areas, one side of a road had been placed in one division and the opposite side in another, he claimed.

Parvathareddy alleged that corporation officials were redrawing divisions under pressure from ruling party leaders and said the process violated municipal norms. He also objected to the bifurcation of the minority-dominated 43rd division into four parts, alleging an attempt to weaken minority unity.

The YSRC leader said the party had submitted objections to the municipal commissioner and maintained that the delimitation process should be taken up only after completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in September.

Alleging that the coalition government was rushing the process due to growing public resentment, he warned that the YSRC would approach the courts and launch public protests if changes were not made in line with people’s aspirations.

He also criticised the government for allegedly failing to complete pending school infrastructure works under the Nadu-Nedu programme in the district.
