Bhopal, June 10: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday alleged that the rejection of nomination papers of Congress Rajya Sabha candidate Meenakshi Natarajan is a fallout of the ‘infighting’ in the grand old party and called it an “insider’s job”.
Mr. Yadav alleged that Ms. Natarajan was not acceptable to several senior leaders of Congress in the state.
He wondered how can a national party like Congress do such a silly mistake of omitting a pending court case in the affidavit filed along with the nomination papers by the Congress candidate.
This apart, the manner in which the Congress staged a public show of gathering its MLAs at the airport to shift them to Bengaluru on Tuesday and creating ruckus at the airport for the delay of flight and finally dropping the journey clearly demonstrated that the rejection of nomination of the party candidate was allegedly pre-planned.
He was referring to the delay of the chartered flight, scheduled to carry the Congress MLAs to Bengaluru, for around four hours on Tuesday and later suspension of the journey after declaration of rejection of nomination form of the Congress candidate.
Mr. Yadav also floated a theory that the Congress might have resorted to the trick to allegedly ensure cancellation of the nomination form after sensing that around 20-22 Congress MLAs may cross vote to ensure victory of BJP’s third candidate Mahesh Kewat in the June 18 RS polls.
Congress however dismissed the charges describing them as ‘absolutely nonsense and baseless’.
The Congress has numbers in its favour and was pretty confident of victory of its candidate in the polls, a senior Congress leader said and added that why any party would want its winning candidate to lose.
“It is a conspiracy by the BJP to remove the Congress candidate out of context by ensuring rejection of her nomination to secure victory of its third candidate”, state Congress chief Jitu Patwari said.
Meanwhile, Congress staged a ‘fasting protest’ for the second day on Wednesday here to protest against the decision by the Returning Officer (RO) to cancel the RS nomination papers of its candidate.
Senior leaders such as former chief minister Digvijay Singh, state party chief Mr. Patwari, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Umang Singhar and former Union minister Arun Yadav took part in the ‘fasting protest’ by the party.
