Natasha Hamilton opens up on a potential reunion given England’s promising performance so far – and makes a shock admission about one of their biggest hits
Given England is currently thriving in the World Cup, Atomic Kitten star Natasha Hamilton has revealed whether she’d consider getting back together with her bandmates Liz McClarnon and Jenny Frost to revive Whole Again.
It comes after the rapturous success of their 2020 Euros remake, Southgate You’re The One, which saw Atomic Kitten return to the UK Top 20 on the singles charts.
Reminiscing on their last strike with their timeless hit in 2020, Natasha said: “‘Southgate You’re The One’ only happened because me and Liz were booked to do Boxpark and we sing three songs and they were like, ‘would you mind doing the Southgate version today for the fans?’ And we were like, ‘not a problem!’. And it went viral!”
Natasha, who released her debut EP Extraction on Friday, revealed in the new interview with 2000s pop music podcast Right Back At Ya! . the truth about the likelihood of a reunion as a full band with Jenny Frost, who has been based in Ibiza for years.
“Anything to do with Atomic Kitten – it’s chaos. It’s never just chill. It is all or nothing. It just felt like we were all going to have to give up our lives to make this work.
“Me and Liz live here and we’ve been doing bits for years, but for Jen, it’s a whole new world again for her. She’d have to spend so much time away from her family. I was like, ‘I get it. This is not that easy for you.’
“That’s one of the main reasons why, if we were to do something, I can’t see it ever being a prolonged thing but I would love a one-off farewell. If we did it, it would be one night and one night only – and that’s it.”
Natasha added, “I would happily move to Ibiza to make this work for Jen! Just putting it out there!”
Speaking over Pride in London weekend, Natasha Hamilton revealed Atomic Kitten’s label axed a planned lesbian scene with her in one of the band’s biggest hits and most memorable videos – Be With You.
Natasha said: “In the video for Be With You, my scene was supposed to be me and a girl. That was what the video director wanted but the record label went, ‘Absolutely not!’
“For some reason I was filming last, there was no one there other than the crew and me. The girls are in scenes with boys and I’m not gonna be ‘Billy no-mates’ like ‘no one wants to be with Tash!’.”
She added that she would have loved to have fulfilled the girl-on-girl scene. “ Of course, it would have been amazing! And I’m like, ‘Guys, I just had a baby! It doesn’t matter. It’s representation!’ But no, the label were having none of it.”
Natasha was speaking on the Right Back At Ya! Podcast.
