Vijayawada: Union minister of state for Communications and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, along with Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), on Wednesday inspected the arrangements for the National Saras Aajeevika Mela 2026, which will be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu.

Pemmasani underlined that the mela would bring together high-quality food products, cultural programmes, and a wide range of handicraft products from different states, while also offering visitors an opportunity to experience the country’s diverse culinary traditions under one roof.

Special priority had been given to women belonging to self-help groups (SHGs) in Andhra Pradesh to showcase and market their products.

The event aims to empower rural women by building their confidence and equipping them with skills needed to turn their products into commercially viable ventures, the union minister said.

He said the mela will involve training sessions to help SHG members understand product branding, packaging, and transportation.

In addition, the sessions would familiarise them with ways to connect with online retailers and expand their market reach.

Pemmasani said the National Saras Mela will enable rural women to reach a wider customer base.

Describing President Droupadi Murmu’s participation as the chief guest as a matter of pride, he appealed to people from Vijayawada, Guntur, neighbouring areas, and districts to visit the fair, sample the regional delicacies, and explore the products displayed by women entrepreneurs from across the country.

The union minister thanked MP Kesineni Chinni for taking a keen interest in bringing the national-level Saras Aajeevika Mela to Vijayawada.

On his part, MP Chinni reiterated that the fair will provide a platform for rural women entrepreneurs from AP to interact with customers, promote their products, and gain exposure to new marketing opportunities.
