Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are still at odds regarding a new contract. With training camp just a week away, both sides need to find a middle ground to get the offseason distraction out of the way.

The Pistons have reportedly increased their offer to Duren to $200 million for five years, which is in the ballpark of his desired salary. The 22-year-old center is eligible to receive as much as $287 million for five years.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Hunter Patterson, it was the “first sign of progress in nearly six weeks” for Duren and the Pistons. Amick and Patterson noted that Duren could accept a one-year deal for $9.6 million and bet on himself anew in next year’s free agency.

They also noted that the Milwaukee Bucks have their eye on the talented pivot.

“Duren’s confidence is born out of the fact that his market for next summer looks quite robust. As The Athletic previously reported, the Sacramento Kings have signaled a willingness to pay him a max-salary deal next summer. That alone has aided his leverage, but there are at least two other teams—including the Milwaukee Bucks—that are known to have serious interest in Duren (both now and potentially next summer),” wrote Amick and Patterson.
The Bucks are projected to have a significant space in next year’s salary cap, allowing them to sign Duren to a sizable deal. He could team up with Kel’el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr. in forming a young and versatile frontline.
Last season, Duren averaged a career-high 19.5 points on 65% shooting and 10.5 rebounds in 70 games. He helped the Pistons capture the top seed in the Eastern Conference for the first time since the 2006-2007 season. He made his maiden appearances in the All-Star Game and the All-NBA Team.
