Mangaluru/Belagavi/Hubballi: Student organisations and the BJP held separate demonstrations across Coastal and North Karnataka on Friday over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, with the BJP accusing the Congress of exploiting the students’ agitation for political gain.
In Mangaluru, a protest march was held from Hampankatta to the Mini Vidhana Soudha. Holding placards reading “NEET is not for Sale”, “National Leak Agency” and “The Future of Our Youth Deserves Justice”, the protesters staged a march. Some participants also carried placards expressing solidarity with climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
In Hubballi, NSUI and Youth Congress workers staged a demonstration demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding him responsible for the alleged lapses in the conduct of the examination.
Meanwhile in Belagavi, BJP staged a protest condemning the alleged egg attack on BJP legislators and party workers during a recent demonstration in Bengaluru and accusing the Congress of politicising the ongoing student agitation.
The protesters took out a march from Rani Chennamma Circle to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, raising slogans against the Congress before submitting a memorandum addressed to the President through the district administration.
BJP leader and former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath said the BJP was not opposed to the students’ agitation against the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. However, he alleged that Congress leaders were exploiting the pain and anxiety of students for political gain. He accused the Congress of trying to create unrest against the Central government by using students as a tool and urged the public to recognise what he described as the party’s political agenda.
