NELLORE: District collector Himanshu Shukla has sounded a high alert in view of Cyclone Murasu, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and gale winds reaching speeds of up to 120 kmph.

The cyclone is likely to cross the coast between Kavali and Kandukur between Monday evening and midnight (November 2), with its impact expected to continue until Tuesday afternoon. Kavali, its surrounding areas and the stretch from Nellore to Gudur are likely to be affected.

The collector urged people in low-lying and coastal areas to remain alert and move to safer locations if necessary. Fishermen have been strictly advised against venturing into the sea. People should avoid going outdoors during heavy rain and strong winds and stay away from electric poles and snapped power lines. Residents of thatched houses and old or unsafe structures were also advised to relocate to safer places.

All departments have been directed to remain on round-the-clock alert and coordinate emergency response measures. A 24-hour control room has been set up at the collectorate to address emergencies.
