For runners looking for a fresh challenge next year, a brand-new half marathon is coming to the heart of Scotland.
The inaugural Stirling Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, May 16, 2027, with organisers expecting between 5,000 and 7,000 runners to take part in its first year.
The new event is being delivered by Up and Running Events in partnership with London Marathon Events, the team behind the world famous TCS London Marathon.
The partnership combines London Marathon Events’ experience in organising major mass participation races with Up and Running Events’ knowledge of the Scottish running community.
Organisers hope the new race will become a major fixture in Scotland’s annual running calendar, attracting thousands of runners and supporters to Stirling.
While the exact 13.1 mile route has not yet been revealed, organisers have promised a course through one of Scotland’s most historic and iconic settings.
The expected turnout would make the Stirling Half Marathon one of the country’s larger inaugural running events, while giving runners another spring race to add to their calendars.

London Marathon and Up and Coming Events took to Instagram to announce the news, describing the half marathon as “13.1 unforgettable miles.”
The caption read: “Scotland’s newest half marathon has arrived. Introducing the @stirlinghalfmarathon. Historic streets. Spectacular views. 13.1 unforgettable miles.
“Join us next May to be part of this inaugural half marathon event at the Gateway to the Scottish Highlands.”
Keen runners were quick to take to the comment section to express their interest in the event, with one comment reading: “This is huge. Well done @upandcomingevents. I’ll be there.” While another keen runner said: “This is mega!!! Count me in.”
As a third was enthusastic about the link up with London Marathon events, as they penned: “Finally get a chance to experience an LME event!”
Meanwhile other comments included eager runners hoping to find out more details about when they can sign up for the half marathon.
