Strictly Come Dancing host Josh Widdicombe showed off his never seen before dance moves during filming of his new TV entertainment show Let’s Play Ball

When comedian Josh Widecombe was announced as the new host of Strictly Come Dancing alongside Emma Willis and professional dancer Johannes Radebe, many believed BBC bosses were impressed purely by his sharp wit. But if these pictures are anything to go by, it looks as though he may have had a secret weapon under his belt. While filming in Canterbury for his new entertainment show Let’s Play Ball, Josh, 43, showed off his dance moves between takes while entertaining the crowds who looked on.

The TV comedian was joined by his fellow funny men Rob Beckett, Mo Gilligan, Harriet Kemsley, This Morning presenter Josie Gibson and former England rugby star Joe Marler.

All of the stars took part in the challenge themed series, which sees teams try and navigate large red and yellow inflatable balls through busy towns and cities.

However, Jo Marler appeared to hark back to his rugby days as he rugby tackled Rob Beckett to the ground to stop him winning the challenge.

Before Josh’s coveted role on the ballroom dancing show was officially announced, he was forced to remain tight-lipped even to friends and family. And it appears it caused him a lot of inner turmoil.

At the time, many names were thrown in to the hat including Alan Carr and Bradley Walsh. Speaking on his Parenting Hell podcast, which he co-hosts alongside Rob Beckett, he said last month: “I’m glad it’s out there because I’ve been lying to people.”

Rob then outed him for lying while on Good Morning Britain as he was asked the question which he refused to confirm. In response Josh said: “I didn’t lie on Good Morning Britain. I evaded questions,” before Rob jokingly added: “You acted like a politician.”

He also had to keep quiet with his two kids Pearl, eight, and son Cassius, five, who he shares with TV producer wife Rose Hanson.

Josh continued: “This is being recorded when the news has just come out. I’ve got to go and get them from school in a bit and I’ll tell them.

“Because I couldn’t trust them. You just simply can’t trust them. You don’t leave an eight-year-old and go: ‘You simply can’t tell anyone this’, because that’s unfair, so I haven’t told them.

“So I’m going to go and pick them up from school and my son won’t really, I think with my daughter the truth is, it’s not going to feel as wild to her.”
