NFL responds to more allegations emerging against Josh Jacobs as his attorneys push back

The NFL says it is reviewing previously unreported allegations against Josh Jacobs amid the revelation that at least three more women have alleged physical abuse from the Packers running back.

As the publicly known cases mount against Jacobs, who was arrested in May after his then-girlfriend alleged he threw her to the ground, his attorneys called the newly reported allegations “uncorroborated” and “old,” saying the Brown County, Wis., District Attorney’s office has known about these allegations “for months.”

“They conducted their own exhaustive investigation, along with the police department, and the D.A. determined that only two misdemeanor charges were warranted,” David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld and Clarence F. Duchac III said in a statement issued to various news organizations, including the AP.

“They then entered into a plea agreement with Josh Jacobs. Josh has repeatedly expressed his remorse and is honoring the terms of the agreement.”

Jacobs was arrested on three domestic abuse charges, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim on May 26 after an altercation with his then-girlfriend. On Sept. 10, Jacobs pleaded no contest to misdemeanor counts of battery and criminal damage to property.

After news of the arrest became public, at least three women contacted the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department with similar allegations against Jacobs, according to a case file first reported by NBC 26 in Green Bay.

It is unclear how these additional allegations will affect Jacobs’ standing in the league and with the Packers. The NFL, which says its investigation into Jacobs remains open, placed him on the commissioner’s exempt list in August, which caused Jacobs to miss the first six games of the season.

The three-time Pro Bowler has played in two games, combined for 143 yards through the ground and the air and placed his hands behind his back after scoring one touchdown Thursday in a win over the Panthers, a move that appeared to mimic himself in handcuffs, though he said it was a homage to a gospel song called “Break Every Chain.”

According to the police records released Friday, three women have come forward since May. One told police of an alleged incident in January 2022 in which she said Jacobs slapped her across the face, threw her on a bed and the floor, grabbed her by the throat, spit on her and at one point said, “I should kill you right now.”

Another woman alleged that Jacobs in April 2021 had grabbed her by the arms and biceps areas, pushed her against a wall and threw her belongings out.

A third, who said she met Jacobs through social media, alleged Jacobs had grabbed her by the hair, placed his hands on her head and neck, dragged her, scratched her and also took her cell phone in May 2022.
