Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action taken report within four weeks from authorities on the collapse of a lighting structure that reportedly killed a student and left several others injured at MVSR Engineering College during a cultural festival on October 17.
The commission, on Wednesday, directed the Rangareddy district magistrate, the Rangareddy police commissioner and the commissioner and director of municipal administration to take necessary action and submit a report within four weeks of receiving the letter.
The directions followed a complaint by S. Kalyan and K. Revantha, who sought intervention over the incident during the Sangamam 2026 technical and cultural festival, where an overhead metallic lighting truss and its supporting poles reportedly collapsed during a Dandiya celebration.
Kalyan told Deccan Chronicle that they had sought an “impartial, time-bound investigation, compensation for the families of the deceased, medical assistance for injured students, accountability if negligence is established, and safety audits of temporary event structures at educational institutions.”
The commission directed that the complaint be forwarded to the authorities for necessary action.
It asked them to submit the action taken report through the prescribed channel within four weeks.
