Nicki Minaj blamed her makeup for people believing she had surgery on her face
In an interview with Extra, Nicki Minaj set the record straight about whether she ever got surgery to alter her face. Nicki clearly had enough of those rumors and addressed them head-on, stating that it was all because of her makeup. According to her, whenever people looked at her, they thought that she was doing all types of crazy things to her skin, but in reality, that wasn’t true. She said:
“When people see my makeup, they think all types of crazy things that I’m doing to my skin, but it’s makeup.”
Nicki Minaj reiterated that she did not go under the knife to enhance the appearance of her nose, as many people assumed she did. She attributed her changing features to dramatic makeup. Giving the example of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the rapper said that one can see how easy it is to change the shape of a person’s nose with the use of contour. She added:
“I’ve never had surgery on my face — like God, it’s makeup, people. They’ll see contour, and they’ll think you had surgery on your nose, no, no, no, look at RuPaul’s Drag Race, and you’ll see how you can make your nose look any shape you want.”
However, in later interviews, Nicki did admit to other cosmetic work that she had done on her body. She also confessed that she wasn’t proud of all her plastic surgery decisions. In 2023, during her appearance on The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, Nicki said that she can guarantee that if anyone decides to get work done on their body, there is a high chance that they will look back at some point in time and think they were just fine before the surgery. She said:
“I guarantee you, if you change anything on your body and do anything surgical and all this, you’re going to — more than likely, not definitely, more than likely — look back one day and say, ‘I was fine just the way I was.'”
Nicki Minaj said that this is exactly what happened to her. She told co-hosts Chioma Nnadi and Chloe Malle that at one point she preferred not to look at her older photos because she didn’t like the way she looked. Nicki claimed that she didn’t like being skinny, having a flat butt, and “having boobs that didn’t sit high enough.” But now that she herself has grown older, she said that she loves the way she looked in her younger days when she did not have any work done on her body.
According to the rapper, the reason that she began changing her appearance was because of her growing public persona. She admitted that her passion for music had led her to a “very scary” environment that resembled a “fish bowl” with millions of people watching her.
It was after Nicki welcomed her son, Papa Bear, that her perception of herself changed. She said that seeing her son reminded her of her real self, and finally she could look at her old photos and think of herself as beautiful.
