L7 star Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with a form of ‘aggressive’ brain cancer and has withdrawn from the Nineties grunge group’s upcoming farewell tour

L7’s Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with brain cancer. The bassist of the legendary Nineties grunge group has now withdrawn from their upcoming farewell tour in light of the diagnosis.

Her bandmates, Suzi Gardner, Demetra Plakas and Donita Sparks shared the sad news on Monday, explaining that Jennifer, 59, had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of the disease.

In a statement on Instagram, the group said: “Our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support. Friends, family and L7 have launched a GoFundMe to help cover these urgent expenses and allow her to remain safely at home with the care, dignity and support she needs.

“The Last Hurrah Tour was planned along with Jennifer when all four of us were in good health and spirits. Although she will not be able to join us for the upcoming U.S. dates, Jennifer has asked us to continue with the tour as planned. We will honour her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority.”

They went on to add: “Please donate if you are able – and, just as importantly, please share the campaign as widely as possible. Every contribution, share and message of support matters.

“Jennifer is part of our family. We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years.”

Captioning their upload, the banned penned: “Please Donate and Share. We Love You, Jennifer. Donate. Jennifer Finch, L7 Bassist, Diagnosed With Aggressive Brain Cancer, Friends and Family Launch GoFundMe to Help Cover Urgent Medical, Rehabilitation, and In-Home Care Expenses.”

Meanwhile, Jennifer’s loved ones have since taken to Instagram to share an update. They said: “Many of you know Jennifer as a musician, artist, writer, photographer, punk historian, and a force of nature who has never been particularly interested in sitting still or going quietly.

“Today, we have to share something none of us ever wanted to write: Jennifer is facing an aggressive form of brain cancer. After her diagnosis, there was hope that treatment would give her a path back to some version of normal life. Instead, complications brought multiple surgeries and a relentless series of setbacks.

“Jennifer is now living with significant physical limitations and requires a level of care that love, friendship, and sheer determination cannot safely provide around the clock. A GoFundMe has been created to help cover professional in-home nursing care, physical and speech therapy, medical equipment, home-care expenses, and the essential support Jennifer needs to live with as much comfort, dignity, autonomy, and quality of life as possible. It will also help protect and preserve the creative legacy she has spent decades building—because that work matters, and it deserves to endure.

“Jennifer has spent her life making noise. Making art. Making history. Challenging expectations. Kicking down doors. Showing up for people. Giving a damn when it would have been easier not to. Now it’s our turn to show up for her. If you can donate, please visit the link in Jennifer’s bio. If you can’t, share it far and wide. Send it to the people who danced to her music, learned from her work, stood beside her, argued with her, laughed with her, loved her, or were changed by something she created.”

They went on to add that every donation helped provide real care for Jennifer, and that the messages she has received have reminded her that the community she created is still “loud, stubborn and standing beside her.”

Jennifer is one of the longest-standing members of the group, having joined in 1986, just one year after they formed. In 1994, she also appeared in the Doll Parts video alongside Courtney Love’s Hole, replacing bassist Kristen Pfaff, who died aged 27.

Although she quit the band in 1996 and they went on to split in 2001, they rejoined forces in 2014 and in May this year, announced they would be heading out on their farewell tour, The Last Hurrah 2026, which is due to take place in October this year.
