VIJAYAWADA: Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has directed power utility officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across Andhra Pradesh during the peak summer season, stressing that consumers should not face either scheduled or unscheduled power cuts.
Addressing a teleconference with CMDs of various power utilities on Saturday, the minister reviewed preparedness to meet rising demand amid soaring temperatures and unseasonal weather. He said the government’s priority was to ensure continuous supply to households, industries and commercial establishments.
The minister noted that sudden rains and extreme heat could cause technical disruptions, but officials must act swiftly to restore supply. He directed staff to remain on high alert and ensure immediate repair and restoration.
“Power cuts should not occur anywhere in the state, either officially or unofficially,” Ravi Kumar said. He added that if supply has to be suspended for unavoidable technical reasons or maintenance, consumers must be informed in advance.
During the review, the minister sought explanations for complaints from certain areas despite adequate power availability. Officials said some disruptions were caused by transformer failures due to excessive heat and localised outages triggered by unseasonal rains.
Expressing concern over inconvenience to consumers, the minister instructed officials to respond promptly to grievances and resolve issues on a war footing.
