Ali G mocks Noel Gallagher for ‘sad’ Oasis reunion at movie screening

Noel Gallagher didn’t have the chilled night out he expected after being yanked out by his seat by Ali G himself.

The Oasis legend, 59, had been enjoying a date night with girlfriend Nina Johnson, 29, to watch Ali G’s new film Who Iz I? when he came face to face with Sacha Baron Cohen’s alterego.

Wearuing a silver puffer jacket lined with green and pink streaks and his trademark yellow shades, the weed-smoking head of the Staines Massive strode down into into the cinema screening before pointing down at Noel and saying: “You is in my seat. Has you got a ticket?”

Noel replied awkwardly that he did, before Ali G yelled: “Get out, get out!” in front of delighted cinema goers. “Show yourself,” he said, yanking Noel out of his seat. “You look like what’s his name, one of them Oasis twins, innit. Nigel Gallagher, innit! A 50-year-old white man trying to make a comeback after 20 years… so sad!”

Drawing attention to Noel’s partner, he continued: “Is this your girlfriend? Not anymore she aint!” Going over to hold her hand, he added: “What’s your name? Respect, respect.”

Addressing the audience, he went on: “Yo, listen, I is here and was feeling very charitable…” Turning to Noel, he asked what he was doing and told him to sit down. He went on to offer selfies and made a myriad of other not-so-legal-sounding offers.

Sharing the video on Instagram, he wrote: “Ali G vs. Noely G, guess who won.”

Fans were in hysterics, with one writing: “Best collab anyone could ask for Oasis x Ali G.” While another commented: “Ali G is great and exactly what the world needs again!” A third wrote: “Amazing promotion for a movie. So few people go to the cinema these days. This has been a masterclass so far.”

But it hasn’t been all smiles for Sacha Baron Cohen. In August, news of the film sparked a fierce backlash as a petition was launched to ban it from cinemas.

The character was first invented as “the voice of youth” on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show in 1998. Then in the 2000s he led the Da Ali G Show, and then had his own starring role in the 2002 film Ali G Indahouse. Now, 23 years since the first film was released, the new movie shows Ali G face becoming a father and moving to the US in order to provide from his family.

But after the character was a hit in the 90s, 2026 audiences have called the act ‘outdated’ and ‘offensive.’ Picturehouse Cinemas – which has operates 25 theatres in the UK – has already said that it is “unlikely” to be showing the film.

NewsCord, a UK news comparison and media monitoring platform, have added pressure saying the act is outdated – and wants cinemas around the world to refuse to screen the movie, which is due out in October.

Writing on X the post read: “Ali G is a cover to laugh at Jamaican culture. The character enforces harmful stereotypes of how a Jamaican man behaves in society.

“Ali G smokes weed, is a misogynist, and does nothing meaningful in life. He does this because he thinks this is what a Jamaican does.

“The world laughs at Ali G. But the real butt of the joke are Black people and specifically Jamaicans,’ they added. ‘This is evident in a number of Baron Cohen’s films, where a race or religion is the victim of the ‘joke’.”
