Norway 1-2 Portugal: Report, result, goals as Ramos scores winner after replacing Ronaldo in starting lineup

Goncalo Ramos’ lobbed effort secured a 2-1 win for Portugal away at Norway in the Nations League.

The AC Milan striker, named ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting lineup for the game in Oslo, capitalised on a horror error from Orjan Nyland to score the winner in the second half, moments after Erling Haaland had equalised for the hosts.

Portugal went ahead in the 17th minute through Joao Felix’s well-taken finish, which was his second goal in as many games for his country.

The victory takes the Selecao to top spot in Group A4 in the Nations League, with new manager Jorge Jesus winning both his games in charge so far.

Felix scores again

Both sides made winning starts to their Nations League campaigns earlier this week, with Norway beating Denmark 3-2 and Portugal edging past Wales 1-0. Felix, who scored against Wales, was once again on target as Portugal looked to make it two victories from two.

Portugal broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Nuno Mendes drove forward before releasing Pedro Neto down the left. Neto squared the ball for Felix, who produced an excellent finish from the edge of the box into the bottom-left corner.

Norway responded through Erling Haaland, who saw a close-range effort saved by Diogo Costa after combining with Martin Odegaard, before Ruben Dias produced a crucial block to deny the Manchester City striker another opportunity.

Haaland continued to cause problems in the closing stages, forcing Costa into a scramble to keep out his header from Antonio Nusa’s cross, while Sander Berge also saw an effort saved.

Nusa fired narrowly over after Norway appealed for a foul on Andreas Schjelderup, and Torbjorn Heggem had earlier headed Odegaard’s corner across the face of goal.

Portugal’s Francisco Conceicao, a constant threat down the right, also went close, but the visitors’ lead remained intact at the break.

Haaland scores before Nyland howler

Norway drew level early in the second half through the most likely of sources, with Haaland there to fire home from Patrick Berg’s header after Odegaard’s free-kick was saved.

Parity did not last long for the hosts, though, as a horror moment from Orjan Nyland saw the goalkeeper play the ball straight to Ramos, who executed a lovely chip into the back of the net.

Rafael Leao went mightily close to making it 3-1 when he crashed the ball off the crossbar, before Ramos thought he had doubled the Seleaco’s advantage after another Nyland blunder.

The RB Leipzig goalkeeper came out of his goal to clear the ball again but allowed Ramos to tap in after fluffing his lines, but the goal was ruled out for offside in the build-up as the game stayed at 2-1.

Odegaard then had the ball in the back of the net up the other end but the referee blew for foul by the Arsenal captain for a foul on Renato Veiga when he won the ball.
