Notre Dame was almost a 30 point favorite on Saturday night when it beat the undefeated Michigan State Spartans, 27-10. While that may not be overly impressive to people right now, it won’t really matter five, six, seven weeks down the road. It was a game that was never really in doubt, and the Irish pretty much dominated every part of the game played under the lights and in the middle of a rain storm.
So, Notre Dame was rewarded with the No. 3 ranking in the country by both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll. The Irish did, however, lose their lone No.1 vote which was Rece Davis in the AP Top 25.
Whether we like it or not, until we get to week 9, Notre Dame’s biggest opponent is Las Vegas and the lines. We won’t know how good some of these teams (like Wisconsin and Michigan State) will be until then, and then maybe some voters will be a little more impressed.
