He went on to add: “A new chapter. A bigger vision. A commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation. My focus is on four things: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.
“From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible. Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.
“The future starts with a conversation #SouljaBoy2028 #America2028 #TheFuture.” His post, which has been liked over 89,000 times, was flooded with messages from fans, who said that they would vote for him. Musician Big Venti commented: “You got my vote fam.”
“I got a feeling he gone be the first rapper president,” said another. A third person penned: “At this point, welcome Mr. President.” “Soulja for president,” said another.
But one fan penned: “The first rapper to run for president,” although many pointed out that Waka Flocka had attempted to run in April 2015, despite being under the constitutional required age of 35. He was 30 at the time of the 2016 United States presidential election.
Kanye West, also known as Ye, announced on July 4, 2020, that he was planning to run for president. West filed his Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission on July 16, before entering the election despite missing at least six states’ deadlines to appear on the ballot as a third-party candidate.
His then-wife, Kim Kardashian, endorsed his campaign before later switching her endorsement to Joe Biden. West advocated for the creation of a culture of life, endorsed environmental stewardship, supported the arts and the restoration of school prayer, and provided for a strong national defence.
He later withdrew from the election campaign, but at the same time suggested that his hopes of a career in politics were far from over.
In November 2022, when asked by paparazzi, West confirmed that he was running for president in the 2024 presidential campaign. Days later, he met Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago and claims that he asked the then-President to be his vice-presidential candidate.
In a video, West claimed of his meeting with Trump: “When Trump started basically screaming at me at the table, telling me I was going to lose — I mean, has that ever worked for anyone in history. I’m like hold on, hold on, hold on, Trump, you’re talking to Ye.”
Donald Trump later spoke out, saying that he told West: “Don’t run for office, a total waste of time, can’t win.”
