Meanwhile at the World Cup: A big day for the Socceroos

Of course this is a rugby league blog but today was a big day for that other football code, with the Socceroos earning a place in the World Cup knockout stages via a 0-0 draw with Paraguay. Whether you were able to watch the game or not, we have all the coverage you need from today’s game:

Welcome

Hello and welcome to tonight’s live coverage of the Broncos’ Friday night clash with the Roosters at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. Dom Brock on blog duties with you tonight.

It’s a dire time for reigning premiers Brisbane, who have lost six games on the trot – a stretch that started against the Roosters back in round nine. They’re coming off a bye and have Origin stars Reece Walsh, Payne Haas and Kotoni Staggs back in the side tonight, so are every chance of bouncing back into form.

The Roosters have had a bit of a rocky time of it lately too, losing three of their past five games. They were thumped at this ground a fortnight ago 48-10 by the Dolphins, but enjoyed a big turnaround with a 27-8 win over Cronulla last week.

Hugo Savala returns for them in the centres tonight, and with seven current Origin players and a couple of ex-Origin stars they’ll start favourites away from home. Kick-off is at 8pm.
