Train stations, airports and expressways were crowded on August 16 as travelers returned from vacations and hometown visits on the final day of the Obon holiday.
Tokyo Station was packed with passengers taking part in the annual return rush, while airports across the country also saw heavy crowds.
Traffic congestion developed on expressways, particularly on routes leading toward major urban areas, as people returned home by car.
