Koraput: The Odisha Police have seized 128.3 kg of ganja from Koraput when the consignment was being transported to Andhra Pradesh, and two persons were detained in this connection, a senior officer said on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a police team intercepted a vehicle near Tangini Chhak in Sunki Ghati under the Sunki Police Station limits on Friday and carried out a detailed search.
During the operation, the police detected a concealed chamber inside the vehicle and recovered several packets containing the suspected cannabis, Koraput SP Rohit Verma said.
The seizure was made as part of intensified checking and surveillance against the transportation of narcotic items through the Sunki Ghati corridor, he said.
“Our team intercepted the goods vehicle and searched it. The team detected a secret chamber from which around 128.3 kg of ganja was recovered,” Verma said.
The value of the seized item is not yet ascertained.
The driver and helper of the vehicle were detained in connection with the seizure, the officer said.
The seizure and subsequent proceedings were conducted in the presence of Pottangi Tahasildar-cum-Executive Magistrate Debendra Dharua.
The investigation is underway to establish the source of the consignment, its destination and the network involved in its transportation, the officer added.
