Off Campus S1 Vs The Deal, Differences That Are There Between Belmont Cameli’s Series And The Book

Prime Video’s Off Campus has left the viewers in awe, and the audience is eagerly waiting for the second season to come out. The series deals with the students of Briar University, and the love angle between ‘Hannah Wells’ and ‘Garrett Graham’, along with ‘Allie’ and ‘Dean’, and others. The series hit the right spot, and the audience provided some great reviews. For the unversed, the series is based on Elle Kennedy’s book series, Off Campus, and season 1 has been adapted from the first book, The Deal.

Reports are rife that season 2 will revolve around the love story of ‘Allie’ and ‘Dean’. Now, for the book series, ‘Allie’ and ‘Dean’s love story could be seen in the third book, The Score, and for the series, the love story started to begin from season 1 only. So, that makes a huge difference between the book series and Prime Video’s adaptation. Well, there are several differences which could be seen between season 1 and the first book, The Deal. So, let’s have a look at what the differences are.

Off Campus vs The Deal: A look at all the differences between the book and the series

To begin with, in Prime Video, ‘Hannah’ and ‘Garrett’s first meeting happened in the locker room, where the latter was taking a bath, and the former entered the space, mistakenly. Speaking of the book, The Deal, there ‘Hannah’ and ‘Garrett’ met at a class when she dropped her books and discovered her grades. Another difference is that ‘Hannah’s crush ‘Justin’ is a musician in the series, while in the book, he is a football player.

Another scene was in the gym, where, while fake dating ‘Hannah’ and ‘Garrett’ kissed, and to prove that she has no feelings for him, ‘Hannah’ moved to ‘Logan’ and kissed him, that’s what we could see in the series, while in the book the kiss happened between ‘Dean’ and ‘Hannah’. While feelings started to stem in ‘Logan’s heart in the series, in the book, ‘Dean’ has zero feelings for ‘Hannah’. ‘Jules’ is a character in the series, whose social media tracks all the hockey players, while the book doesn’t mention any such character. 

There’s a ‘Breaking Bad’ connection between ‘Hannah’ and ‘Garrett’ in the book, while in the series, there’s a silent nod only. In the book, Hannah was seen having an obsession with One Direction, while in the series, it’s not a thing. In the book, The Deal, Graham doesn’t like Halloween because of the negative associations, and it was Hannah who skipped the party and told him about the assault that happened with her, while in the series, Graham’s disliking of Halloween wasn’t seen. In the book, ‘Graham’ spoke to an elderly person to discuss how ‘Hannah’ could reach an orgasm, while in the series, his conversation was with ‘Dean’.

In the book, ‘Garham’ fought with ‘Hannah’s assalitant, after bumping into him, while in the series, he beat him up while playing hockey against him. There comes the breakup scene, and where in the book, ‘Hannah’ initiated it as her beau’s father was pressuring him to cut off his fund, in the series, ‘Graham’ was the one to do the same, as he thought he would end up hurting ‘Hannah’.

Final verdict

So, these are some differences that could be seen between the book and the series, although most of the changes seemed to be written to align the modern timeline, as the book was written several years ago. Be it anything, Off Campus has been Prime Video’s one of the much-loved projects, in recent times, and it’s up for the second season, for which the audience has been eagerly waiting.
