Coach Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes had a strong first quarter at the Horsehoe in Columbus vs. the Oregon Ducks, but gave up 17 points in the second quarter on a day when Luke Fahey filled in for injured QB Julian Sayin. The Buckeyes got a big prediction from a former All-American before the game, but let him down as they fell behind, 38-14, with four minutes left in the fourth and final quarter.

The game also marked the first time the Buckeyes had given up 38 unanswered points since 1999 against the Wisconsin Badgers, as defensive coordinator Matt Patricia’s unit was outfoxed and outplayed at Ohio Stadium.
The Buckeyes made the score a more respectable 38-22 after Luke Fahey rushed for a two-point conversion on the heels of a 13-yard touchdown toss to Jeremiah Smith. A strong rushing day from Bo Jackson did little to assuage frustrations of the Buckeyes’ fans.

The Ducks reeled off 5.6 yards per play while Ohio State had 4.9 yards per play and the game began to wind down in Columbus. Ohio State clung to faint hopes of a comeback victory, but Lanning and Oregon looked like they were about to secure a much-needed win over their nemeses and fellow Big Ten adervsaries.
