Vijayawada:One person was killed and 10 others were injured when a private travels bus rammed a parked container lorry from behind on NH-5 near Vuyyur village in Krishna district in the early hours of Tuesday.
Police said the Ramana Travels bus (NL07B 0850), carrying 33 passengers along with a driver and cleaner, had started from Yanam at 6 pm on Monday and was bound for Hyderabad.
When the bus reached Vuyyur at around 1.30 am, the driver reportedly lost control and crashed into the stationary container lorry.
The cleaner, identified as V. Surya Chandra Sekhar, 22, sustained grievous injuries and later died while undergoing treatment. The driver suffered minor injuries. Nine passengers sustained minor injuries, while one passenger suffered a fractured leg.
All the injured were shifted to government hospitals in Vuyyur and Vijayawada for treatment.
Later, the passengers continued their onward journey after making alternative travel arrangements on their own.
Police registered a case and further investigation is under way.
