NELLORE: The Prakasam district administration will introduce a “One Hotspot–One Officer” system to monitor accident-prone locations round the clock and prevent road mishaps, collector P. Raja Babu said on Wednesday.
Addressing a review meeting on the Trishool programme along with SP V. Harshavardhan Raju, the collector directed officials to identify and closely monitor 54 dangerous road stretches. He also called for awareness programmes among APSRTC drivers to help prevent accidents.
Raja Babu called for wider public awareness on the government’s Trishool initiative covering drug abuse prevention, women’s safety and road safety, particularly in schools and colleges. He also directed officials to install awareness boards on the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign in villages.
He directed officials to ensure that CCTV cameras on national highways remained functional, using Wi-Fi wherever necessary, and to intensify patrolling and surveillance at vulnerable locations.
SP Harshavardhan Raju said no major drug-related problems had been noticed in the district and claimed that enforcement measures had increased public awareness. He said drug abuse and offences against women had declined significantly.
As part of road-safety measures, around 300 convex mirrors have been installed at various locations, including 18 on the Srisailam Ghat Road. Public address systems, additional outposts, highway warning markings, and Eagle and Shakti teams were also being deployed to prevent accidents and improve public safety.
